Born into Communism, Shaped by Freedom

#me

I thought it's about time to tell my story. My name is Michael Antczak, and my life is a tale of adaptability and perseverance, that began in a place quite different from where I am today.

I was born and raised under the iron skies of socialist Poland, a country whose spirit was as indomitable as its winters were harsh, a land steeped in tradition, grit, and the fight for freedom. Growing up, the idea of living in a free country seemed as distant as a dream. But dreams, I've learned, can and do come true.

The path wasn't always easy, and I started my journey from humble beginnings. Through resilience and a thirst for knowledge, I managed to traverse the difficult early years and eventually found myself at the gates of the University of Edinburgh. There, amidst Gothic architecture and Scottish charm, I explored the interconnected realms of Computer Science and Mathematics - disciplines that shaped my future.

Today, I work as a software engineer. Each day is a new challenge, a puzzle to be solved. My job requires the same determination and resilience I learned growing up in Poland. I love delving into intricate coding problems, innovating, and continuously learning. To me, software engineering isn't just a job - it's a craft, a calling.

Aside from my work, I have a fervent passion for coaching kids' football. It's more than just teaching the rules of the game; it's about imparting values of teamwork, discipline, and fair play. It's rewarding to see the smiles on their faces when they make that first goal, knowing I played a part in their achievement.

Before the code-filled days and the echoes of cheering on the football field, there was another significant chapter in my life. I used to fly gliders at Scottish Gliding Centre. Up in the sky, amidst the clouds, I felt a sense of tranquility and perspective that was both humbling and empowering. It was an experience that taught me about precision, risk assessment, and the incredible beauty of nature. Those lessons still resonate with me today, shaping my approach to life and work.

This journey has shaped me into the person I am today. From my humble beginnings in socialist Poland, to my years in Edinburgh, and my present role as a Software Engineer and football coach, each experience has been a thread woven into the tapestry of my life.

So that's a bit about me. Through this blog, I look forward to sharing more of my journey, insights from my professional life, and stories from the football pitch. I hope you'll join me on this adventure.
